We are looking for a Team Leader - Production Hydrate to lead a large team of production technicians towards achieving our safety, people, and growth objectives through executing planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
This role is a great opportunity for a safety-focused Supervisor to lead a team to effectively identify root causes and corrective actions.
Lead, create and maintain a climate in which individuals feel included, valued and all team members are clear about responsibilities, expectations, and objectives.
Reporting to the Superintendent some of your duties will include:
- Managing a team whom are working a continuous day/night roster and completing effective and clear handovers
- Demonstrating personal and team behaviour that meets or exceeds the Yarwun Visions and Models for leadership
- Fostering a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement
- Operating strategy and tactic development and improvement
- Delivering weekly, monthly and annual production and safety performance KPI’s
- Managing expenditure within the allocated budget and execution of Yarwun operating system
- This role requires you to work 3 Days, 2 Nights, 5 off, 2 Days, 2 Nights, 5 off, 2 Days. 3 Nights, 4 off (continuous rotating)
What you’ll bring
- A demonstrated commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A passion for developing your people and enabling their success
- Experience in leading site-based teams ideally in a heavy industry or similar environment
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office, such as Excel, Word and Projects.
- Working knowledge of SAP

Where you’ll be working
With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.
Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
