About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Team Leader to join our Rolling Stock Maintenance team at Nelson Point Ore Car Repair Shop. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, this role is responsible for leading a large and dynamic maintenance team, driving safe work practices, and delivering operational and maintenance performance outcomes.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a proactive individual who enjoys developing people, fostering collaboration, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
As Team Leader, you will provide frontline leadership to support safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance activities while promoting a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development.
- Lead by example to create and maintain an incident and injury-free workplace.
- Appointed Responsible Person (RP), you are required to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Mine Safety & Inspection Act and Mines Safety Inspection Regulations in accordance with your appointment
- Support and coach team members to achieve safety, maintenance, and productivity targets.
- Foster a strong team culture through effective communication, engagement, mentoring, and performance management.
- Work collaboratively with operational and support teams to deliver positive business outcomes.
- Hold team members accountable for meeting agreed performance standards and key performance indicators.
- Complete required reporting, documentation, and data management activities.
- Participate in operations and maintenance planning processes.
- Identify, initiate, and support continuous improvement opportunities.
- Act in the Shift Supervisor role when required.
- Maintain a practical understanding of team activities and support operational delivery as needed.
About You
As the successful applicant you will possess the following:
- Demonstrated leadership experience within a maintenance, mining, heavy industry, rail, or similar operational environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
- Experience driving performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- A commitment to safety leadership and operational excellence.
- Experience with systems such as SAP, Loc8, RSB, or similar operational systems will be highly regarded.
- An understanding of Lean, continuous improvement, or operating system frameworks is advantageous.
