We are looking for a Team Leader to join the Warehouse team at Rio Tinto Yarwun.

The Warehouse Output Team is accountable for safe management of the RTY Warehouse. This role is a challenging role working with many site customers to manage both catalogued and on demand materials.

Accountable to the Superintendent Warehouse, the role would ideally be suited to applicants with either existing leadership experience or have completed the Rio Tinto “Leading at Rio Tinto” development program. 

As a Warehouse Team Leader, the successful applicant’s accountabilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

• Provide a Safe, Clean and Caring environment for the Team Members of the RTY Warehouse.
• Lead a team of Warehouse Officers towards achieving an interdependent safety culture utilizing daily shift starts, safety interactions and critical risk management tools
• Maintaining a strong level of control over the stock count and accuracy of all documentation. This involves full adherence to internal controls and procedures.
• Continually improving the safety culture of the Team by developing safety awareness and associated practices.
• Task assigning and monitoring Team members to ensure outcomes are achieved to the right quality standard and to appropriate safety standards.
• Developing a strong constructive relationship with production peers.
• Recognising and facilitating Team training and development requirements.
• Conducting work performance reviews.
• Actively seeking and supporting continuous improvement.

What you will bring

To be successful in the role, you will have:

• Very high proficiency in SAP systems.
• Commitment to working within RTY safety systems.
• Ability to positively coach Team Members to interdependency.
• Ability to develop, motivate and lead a team.
• A passion for the Lean tools and Waste elimination.
• A strong ability to conduct effective safety interactions and tool-box discussions.
• The ability to establish and maintain strong role relationships with other team members, peers and customers.
• Effective application of team leadership and membership skills.
• Excellent communication (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Where you’ll be working

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).

Along with Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited, our Yarwun Operation supports the local community in a wide range of initiatives through Here for Gladstone.
