We are looking for two Team Leaders to join our Production Department at Rio Tinto Yarwun. You will lead medium-sized teams towards achieving our safety, people, and growth objectives through executing production activities.

This role is a great opportunity for a safety-focused Supervisor to drive positive change and motivate a team to strive for continuous improvement.

Lead, create and maintain a climate in which individuals feel included, valued and all team members are clear about responsibilities, expectations, and objectives.

Reporting to the Superintendent some of your duties that will enable you to lead the delivery of safe production within key areas of the Bayer Process will include:

• Managing a team who are working a continuous day/night roster and completing effective and clear handovers
• Demonstrating personal and team behaviour that meets or exceeds the Yarwun Visions and Models for leadership
• Fostering a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement
• Delivering weekly, monthly and annual production and safety performance KPI’s
• Managing expenditure within the allocated budget and execution of Yarwun operating system
• This role requires you to work 3 Days, 2 Nights, 5 off, 2 Days, 2 Nights, 5 off, 2 Days. 3 Nights, 4 off (continuous rotating)

What you’ll bring 

• A demonstrated commitment to the safety of yourself and your team 
• Experience leading in a high-risk, process-focused environment where you will manage risk as well as people and tasks
• A passion for developing, training and motivating your people and enabling their success
• Strong ability to collaborate and lean on subject matter experts to enable you to problem solve and make sound decisions about safety and production
• Sound risk management skills and ability to make decisions based on risk
• Sound computer literacy skills. Working knowledge of SAP could be advantageous

Where you’ll be working

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
