About the role

We are looking for a capable and detail-focused Technical Officer to join the Projects and Site Infrastructure Department within the Waste Management team working a Mon - Fri shift pattern. 

This is an excellent role for someone with exceptional attention to detail, who enjoys collaborating with a variety of stakeholders and working with different teams. This role requires you to be able to safely work across site and ensure that all monitoring of dust collectors is safely completed as per schedule.

Reporting to the Crew leader – particulate control and working in a diverse team with a strong focus of Health, Safety, and Environment, you will:

  • Scoping, Ordering, Co-ordinating and scheduling Particulate Control & land management activities such as inspections, weed management and of the buffer zone and Bag changes
  • Waste Management End of Month / Year Reports and Safework inspections
  • Waste Management Training and CBP document updates
  • Waste Management Purchase Req. raising and Payments
  • Waste Tracking and Admin support
  • Dust Collector improvement strategies
  • Maintaining equipment including servicing and calibrations
  • Engaging with multiple departments for monitoring and scheduling requirements
  • Reviewing data trends and contribute to continual improvement of the implementation of systems

What you’ll bring

  • Hands-on skills with equipment repairs, servicing, and maintenance
  • Ability to plan work and execute as per schedule.
  • Proven capability to work in hot areas and outdoors.
  • Data handling and entry experience
  • Sound MS Office suite, literacy, and numeracy
  • Enjoys working collaboratively and interacting with different teams across site and as self motivated individual.
  • Capability to organise and seek information utilising your resources and network

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Trade or operational background with demonstrated practical ‘can do’
  • Demonstrated experience working with dust collectors
  • Previous experience working at an Aluminium Smelter

Where you’ll be working

Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.

Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
