About the role

We are looking for a capable and detail-focused Technical Officer to join the Reduction Lines Department working a Mon - Fri shift pattern. 

This is an excellent role for someone with exceptional attention to detail, who enjoys collaborating with a variety of stakeholders and working with different teams. The opportunity exists to work with both Reduction Lines 1, 2 and 3 and the Major Maintenance teams to deliver process improvement projects and improve operating efficiency at Boyne Smelter.

Reporting to the Superintendent – Reduction Line Maintenance and working in a diverse team with a strong focus of Health, Safety, and Environment, you will:

  • Providing a high level of maintenance and technical support to the Reduction lines and major maintenance teams
  • Assisting with the development of operating and maintenance strategies to maximise availability of Assets
  • Driving continuous improvement with regards to overall plant performance 
  • Collaborating with technical experts to ensure continuous improvement of the reduction lines 1, 2 and 3 performance including involvement in design, execution and commissioning of major projects
  • Maintaining equipment including servicing and calibrations
  • Engaging with multiple departments for monitoring and scheduling requirements
  • Reviewing data trends and contribute to continual improvement of the implementation of systems

  • Ability to plan work and execute as per schedule.
  • Proven capability to work in hot areas and outdoors.
  • Data handling and entry experience
  • Sound MS Office suite, literacy, and numeracy
  • Enjoys working collaboratively and interacting with different teams across site and as self motivated individual.
  • Capability to organise and seek information utilising your resources and network

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Trade or operational background with demonstrated practical ‘can do’
  • Demonstrated experience working with dust collectors
  • Previous experience working at an Aluminium Smelter

Where you’ll be working

Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.

Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
