We are looking for a Technical Officer Water Monitoring, who will need to display sound judgement and be able to demonstrate a high level of problem solving. This will include problems regarding in-situ field results that are outside the set guidelines, calibration criteria and equipment, access to sampling sites, housekeeping, and vehicles.
The Technical Officer Water Monitoring will need to develop a strong dynamic relationship with all sections across water management, as well almost every department on site due to the nature of the water monitoring needed to be undertaken at many locations across site.
You will also need to interact with on and offsite laboratory staff as well as the Department of Mines and Energy field staff that undertake concurrent sampling with the Water Quality team.
This role will require you to display sound judgement and be able to work within the legislative requirements under the Ranger Authorisation. The Technical Officer Water Monitoring has both a direct impact through undertaking statutory monitoring and indirect impact through equipment maintenance and housekeeping of sampling equipment and maintaining dispatch and records.
What you will bring
- Adequate written, oral and numeracy skills.
- Basic computer knowledge and application, e.g., MS Word, MS Outlook.
- Positive demeanor/attitude
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in a hot and humid environment
- Experience with water monitoring, data collection and data entry
- Current Australian Driver’s License
The following are desirable, but not essential:
- Light mobile equipment experience such as forklifts and bobcats
- Previous experience working on a mine site and/or in the environmental / Water industry would be looked upon favorably
- Experience with Telemetry systems

Where you will be working
Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is one Australia’s longest continually operating uranium mine. ERA has an excellent track record of reliably supplying customers. Uranium has been mined at Ranger for three decades. Ranger mine is one of only three mines in the world to produce in excess of 100,000 tonnes of uranium oxide.
ERA’s Ranger mine is located eight kilometres east of Jabiru and 260 kilometres east of Darwin, located in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The mine lies within the 79 square kilometre Ranger Project Area. Ranger mine is an open cut mine which commenced commercial production of drummed uranium oxide (U3O8) in 1981.
ERA sells its product to power utilities in Asia, Europe and North America under strict international and Australian Government safeguards. It maintains long term relationships with customers by providing consistent and reliable supply of uranium oxide to meet their energy needs.
The Ranger Project Area and the Jabiluka lease are located on Aboriginal land, and surrounded by, but separate from, the World Heritage Listed Kakadu National Park.
