About the Role

Prominent Hill is a copper–gold operation supporting Australia’s clean energy transition. As demand for copper in renewable energy infrastructure and electric vehicles continues to grow, your work will contribute directly to this important supply chain.

Reporting to the Lead Geologist, as a Geology Technician you will work closely with the Prominent Hill Geology and Mining teams, as well as the wider Copper South Australia asset, including Mining Engineers, Survey, Geotechnical, Metallurgy, and Stores teams. The role also interfaces regularly with mining contractors, diamond drilling crews, and external suppliers, requiring effective collaboration and communication to support safe, efficient, and compliant operations.

Location: Prominent Hill Mine

Roster: 8/6-DS:7/7-NS Rotating roster FIFO ex Adelaide and Port Augusta

Term: Permanent Full Time

In this role, you will be responsible for working within a team of geologists and technicians to execute:

Underground Geology Processes:

  • Support daily mine geological services through visual inspection, mapping/face photography and sample collection at development headings, stope draw points and production drilling locations
  • Occasional collection of production drilling sludge samples in low confidence areas
  • Assist in monitoring material movements to ensure compliance with grade allocation
  • Daily and EOM stockpile inspections and data tracking
  • Effective data management in a database and 3D software for Geology records
  • Accurate and timely reporting (daily / weekly / monthly) of sampling data as required

Supporting core yard operations:

  • Diamond drill core metre marking, orientation, SG measurements and cutting.
  • Support and execution for grade control project tasks working across the Geology team
  • Participation in department daily, weekly, safety meetings

About You

You will have: 

  • Manual driver’s license (mandatory)
  • High-Risk Forklift licence preferable
  • Experience in an underground mining environment is preferable
  • Understanding of underground development process is preferable
  • Core yard Technician drill core processing exposure is advantageous
  • Ability to make confident and timely decisions when working under high-pressure situations
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to work in a team
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and drive safe practices
  • Positive attitude and work ethic with a growth mindset is required
  • Computer skills, including exposure to Microsoft office
