We are looking for a Technician – Hygiene to be a part of the health and safety team providing occupational hygiene support to the Bell Bay site.

This hands-on role will give you broad and practical experience, including in many areas of occupational hygiene unique to the aluminum smelting industry. Reporting to the Health and Safety Lead and working in a collaborative community within the HSE Bell Bay team, you will work a day roster (Monday – Friday) with some flexibility to accommodate sampling aligned with the continuous shift roster. You will be:

  • Scheduling and conducting the hygiene sampling program;
  • Conducting sample preparation, analysis, dispatch and quality assurance;
  • Maintaining hygiene and other Health and Safety data and records;
  • Preparing and distributing hygiene and other Health and Safety performance reports
  • Maintaining relevant HSE registers and databases
  • Managing and maintaining the site chemical approval system
  • Managing the communication of hygiene monitoring data in various formats as required, including feedback to individuals and teams;
  • Troubleshooting, maintenance and calibration of monitoring instrumentation;
  • Maintaining the onsite Occupational Hygiene Laboratory;
  • Assisting with preparation of, and participation in, various audits;
  • Assisting with exposure incident investigations, including coaching leaders to ensure effective corrective actions.
  • Contributing to and assisting in the delivery of HSE improvement initiatives

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Strong technical background and communication skills
  • An eye for detail and the ability to follow technical work procedures consistently and to a high standard
  • An ability to manage tasks independently
  • Qualifications in Occupational Hygiene, Science or similar - desirable
  • Experience in Occupational Hygiene monitoring - desirable
  • Industrial experience - desirable
  • Experience in database management and Microsoft Excel
  • AIOH Basic Principles Course - desirable
