Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometers west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Chemist we are seeking a Laboratory Technician to coordinate & prioritize work to ensure efficient completion of analyses to meet turnaround times and who are excited by the challenges of our business and variety this role offers.

The role is a full-time position working a 7/7 roster, FIFO from Townsville, Brisbane, or Cairns.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

• Preparation, analysis, and reporting of samples to agreed standards
• Maintaining the Laboratory and its equipment in a safe and reliable working state. This encompasses
• Adhering to site and Laboratory safety procedures
• Good housekeeping while and after completion of work
• Maintenance of Laboratory overheads, i.e., reagent preparations as needed, monitoring and maintenance of consumable stocks, equipment prestart and defined operational maintenance of Laboratory equipment
• Review of QAQC and initiation of all required remedial action based on out-of-speciation QAQC prior to reporting results to customers

About you

• Experience as a laboratory technician working in a commercial, mining or production Laboratory is highly favourable
• Certificate III in analytical laboratory practices is desirable
• Understanding and familiarisation with base metal minerals analytical techniques and instrumentation
• Understanding and experience of relevant laboratory equipment - eg some or all of the following: WD-XRF, ICP-OES, ISE, fusion units, laboratory-scale sample comminution is required
• Sound experience with similar laboratory processes and sample preparation
• The ability to work as a team member
• Capacity to communicate with and understand the needs of fellow employees
• Good communication skills, both oral and written is a requirement
• First Aid/CPR Training is preferred
• Forklift license is desirable
• Current Driver’s License is a requirement
