The Quality Measurement and Process and Technical team at Cape Lambert deliver exceptional value for Rio Tinto through ensuring reliable and consistent quality data for all ore shipping from our Port to ensure our product is valued correctly and provide certainty for our global customers.
We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Technician Laboratory to join the Process and Technical team at Rio Tinto Cape Lambert.
The role is a great opportunity to combine your technical knowledge and experience of analytical laboratory operations, drive for continuous improvement, problem solving skills, stakeholder engagement and leadership capabilities. Working on a lifestyle roster and reporting to the Process and Technical Superintendent you will:
- Lead laboratory equipment reliability and quality outcomes, with stakeholder collaboration, to build best proactive routines to sustain changes and improvements
- Oversee effective contract management of OEM vendors
- Coordinate maintenance activities with shut planning and shift maintenance teams, and key contract partners
- Oversee quality verification process, aligned to ISO audit requirements, and monitor compliance to quality standards and manage the execution of routine quality checks
- Oversee Starlims system management
- Provide technical support to an experienced laboratory team of supervisors and operators
- Oversee the reporting of accurate analysis results
- Ensure that plant sampling and laboratory analytical test methods are undertaken safely and to a high standard
- Closely collaborate with supply chain stakeholders to ensure quality processes are provided in a timely manner including marketing and scheduling
- Identify, implement, and sustain improvements to laboratory practices and processes and ensure consistency across all teams in the lab.
This permanent position will be based at Rio Tinto’s Cape Lambert operation working on a fly in fly out roster from Perth or being residential in Wickham. Roster options are flexible.
Where you’ll be working Our port facilities consist of four shipping terminals located on the Pilbara coast at Dampier and Cape Lambert which form an essential part of our logistics process. Each terminal has facilities for train unloading, iron ore stockpiling, product blending and ship loading.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, applicants will have:
- A commitment to safety for yourself and the wider team
- Demonstrated similar experience in sampling and laboratory analysis processes
- Tertiary qualifications in related discipline and/or Cert IV Laboratory Techniques
- Knowledge of asset reliability and related work management and shutdown processes
- Experience leading technically complex projects including developing and coaching teams
- A current "C Class" WA Manual Driver’s License
