About the Role
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Technician who has had proven working experience in a laboratory environment. This is a permanent position based in Newman on an 5/2 4/3, day shift only roster - FIFO or residential! Reporting to the Supervisor - Laboratory, you will be responsible for the execution of planned maintenance and operation of the Analytical and Sample Preparation assets for Newman Operations.
Other responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Ensuring conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
- An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
- Promoting a team culture where communication is open and respectful.
- Perform preventative and breakdown laboratory maintenance tasks
- Safely execute fault finding & implement solutions
- Using SAP and the tools provided, manage the laboratories spares and maintenance consumables
- Assist the team in operating the plant to ensure desired output.
- Execution of planned continuous improvement project work.
Location
With this role you have the choice of either being residentially based in Newman or fly-in fly-out from Perth to Newman on a 5/2 4/3, day shift only roster. You will be working at ‘Mount Whaleback’ mine site, which at more than five kilometres long and nearly 1.5 kilometres wide is the biggest single-pit open-cut iron ore mine in the world. The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well-established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities. As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes.
About You
The successful candidate will possess the following: Qualifications & Licences
- Successful completion of secondary education
- A mechanical trade qualification is desirable
- Previous mining experience desirable but not essential.
- WA Restricted Electrical Licence desirable but not essential
- WA “C Class” Drivers Licence or equivalent.
Skills
- A strong focus on operating discipline;
- A working knowledge of HSE systems and their implications for day-to-day operational activities;
- Good communication & interpersonal skills;
- Sound problem solving and analytical skills;
- Good understanding of industrial automation concepts, technologies, and best practices
- Good understanding of quality control and the implications regarding the operation of a process plant.
Experience
- A knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance practices.
- Exposure to 1SAP type maintenance systems.
- Exposure to pneumatics, sensors, moving parts, linear transport systems and robotics.
- Exposure to welding and metal fabrication
- Exposure to condition monitoring.
