About the role

We are looking for an Occupational Hygiene Technician to join our Health Safety, Environment and Communities (HSEC) team supporting the Railways Division. Being a part of the provision and coordination of occupational hygiene services will put you at the forefront of mining technology with the once in a lifetime opportunity to work with a well established HSEC team. This role will be based at 7 Mile Dampier with opportunities to travel across the Pilbara.

This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to make a positive impact on the health profile of our workforce. Reporting to the Occupational Hygiene Advisor, you will be:

  • Monitoring personal exposure (airborne contaminants, noise) as per our asset risk based monitoring plans and conducting associated data reporting
  • Educating, communicating and engaging with site leaders and operational personnel
  • Managing and coordinating the maintenance and calibration of monitoring equipment to NATA and Rio Tinto standards
  • Conducting on site health surveillance activities (audiometric and lung function testing) as well as respiratory and hearing protection fit testing, interpreting results and investigating anomalies
  • Recommending key control methods (considering the hierarchy of control) for occupational hygiene risk reduction and evaluate control effectiveness
  • Undertaking potable water and legionella monitoring, facilitating occupational hygiene workplace surveys and investigating situations of occupational over-exposure

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: 

  • Passion and motivation to work within a collaborative team to make a difference
  • Experience in a health field with strong analytical and technical capabilities
  • Experience with incident investigations and risk assessment techniques
  • Ability to work autonomously with strong communication, engagement and influencing skills

Where you’ll be working

This role is being offered as a residential in Dampier / Karratha or Fly in Fly out arrange from Perth, where you will be supporting the Health, Safety, Environment and Communities Team for the Railways Division from our Dampier based site at 7 Mile. With opportunities to travel across many of our other Pilbara sites.
