About the Role
Infrastructure & Services (I&S) Water Eastern operates and maintains a range of Water Treatment Plants, bore fields, wastewater systems, and surplus water (aquifer reinjection) assets across the Pilbara.
This position is based in Newman on a family‑friendly 7/7 FIFO roster from Perth, working with a committed, outcomes‑focused team dedicated to safe, reliable water operations.
As a Water Services Technician, you will be responsible for operating and monitoring drinking water and wastewater treatment processes to ensure safe performance and compliance with health, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Routine plant inspections, identifying and reporting faults, and supporting maintenance activities form a core part of the daily duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain water treatment and wastewater processes in line with design requirements, operating manuals, and technical procedures.
- Conduct regular field sampling and testing for drinking water, bore fields, membranes, and wastewater systems.
- Collect and enter field data into operational databases; report anomalies or exceedances to the Supervisor.
- Monitor system alarms and take appropriate operational action to manage risks to supply and compliance.
- Complete scheduled work within required timeframes and standards.
- Participate in safe job planning, toolbox meetings, and workplace inspections.
- Respond to after‑hours breakdowns as part of the on‑call roster.
- Support Supervisors in identifying and implementing improvement initiatives aligned with safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
- Perform routine membrane cleaning, chemical dosing system checks, and chemical handling in accordance with safety and environmental procedures.
- Work closely with internal teams, OEM representatives, and supporting departments to ensure reliable operation of assets.
About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Certificate III in Water Operations (highly regarded).
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a commitment to safe work.
- Ability to work cohesively in a team environment and independently in remote locations.
- Valid Australian C‑Class driver’s licence.
- Experience with groundwater (bore) water treatment processes, SCADA systems, and chemical dosing (including chlorine gas).
- Competence with field laboratory testing and analytical instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to follow procedures, manage risks, and contribute to continuous improvement.
