Work location: Perth based (Hazelmere)
Roster: 5/2 Roster (Mon to Fri)
In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet
Based out our new Hazelmere R&D facility and reporting to the Principal Engineer, we are presently looking for an experienced Thermal Engineer to join the team
Key accountabilities will include:
- Providing Thermal Engineering support to all project within Green Fleets portfolio in a safe, timely and sustainable manner
- Working in collaboration with the broader Engineering team as well as the project management and workshop execution teams
- Detailed design of thermal and cooling systems, including component selection, fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning
- Capable of prioritizing and delivering work in a fast-moving environment
- Ability to adjust to change quickly and adapt to new requirements
- Proactively deliver on the company’s stretch targets
- Develop technical specifications and designs to meet project specific objectives
- Interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications, and scopes
- Resolution of technical and design issues
- Ensure compliance to the project management process by project owners
- Liaising with a range of key stakeholders on all technical aspects of projects
- Providing regular updates to the Project Manager including work progress, risks, and priorities
Qualifications and skills required:
- Mechanical engineering or similar degree
- Minimum 5 years of experience
- Detailed understanding of heat transfer and thermodynamics principles
- Design experience with thermal, cooling and HVAC systems
- Experience selecting and sizing thermal components such as radiators, chillers, heat exchangers and vaporizers
- Experience selecting heat transfer agents according to component specifications and maintenance intervals
- Experience creating P&IDs and 3D design of piping systems
- CAD experience with Solidworks is highly recommended
- Experience with the HAZID/ HAZOP process desired
- Mobile asset experience desired (rail, marine, and heavy mining equipment)
- Clear and calculated decision-making skills
- Ability to work across multiple work fronts in a high-pressure environment
- Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders and in multidiscipline teams
- High commitment to safety
- Experience in preparing detailed scope of works
- Experience in supplier engagement and supplier management process
- Excellent interpersonal awareness with ability to work well in a team
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a drive for excellence
- Results driven, responsible, and accountable
- Skilled in problem solving rapidly
