About the role
We’re looking for a dynamic, people-centred Track scales advisor to join the Rail Network Maintenance (RNM) Inland Track Team based out of West Angelas.
We are seeking a highly organised and technically skilled Track Scale Advisor to lead the centralised planning, coordination, and technical support for the maintenance and reliability of 17 track-mounted weigh scales across 11 mine sites.
This critical role ensures the safe, accurate, and compliant operation of all track scale assets, directly supporting operational efficiency and regulatory standards
You’ll work closely with operational leaders, frontline teams, and technical professionals to enhance systems, build capability, and strengthen risk management—ensuring safety remains core to how we operate every day.
Reporting to the Inland Track Superintendent you will be you’ll be responsible for
Centralised Maintenance & Planning Support
Coordinate scheduled maintenance, calibrations, and repairs across all sites.
Liaise with internal teams and external vendors to align work with operational schedules.
Participate in shutdown planning and mine operations meetings to ensure timely and safe execution of work.
Primary Contact for Execution
Act as the main point of contact for raising work notifications and orders.
Provide technical scope and ensure efficient and effective work execution.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Engage with Rail Operations, Mine Maintenance, Control Systems Engineers, OEMs, and other stakeholders to align track scale performance with production requirements.
Breakdown & Emergency Response
Lead the coordination of urgent repairs, ensuring minimal operational disruption.
Technical Expertise. Offer guidance on calibration, troubleshooting, and performance Optimisation of weigh scale systems.
Work closely with the OEM and internal Systems Advisor for consistent, reliable operations.
Maintenance Strategy & Compliance
Support the development of preventive maintenance strategies.
Ensure all scales meet legal-for-trade and internal accuracy standards.
Maintain records for calibration and compliance with safety and regulatory obligations.
Project & Training Support
Assist with planning and implementation of upgrades or replacements.
Develop training materials and coach site teams to improve operational consistency and capability.
Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with relevant legislative requirements, Rio Tinto standards, policies, and procedures.
Actively promote a positive safety culture, fostering safety awareness and compliance across the team.
Maintain wayside & asset protection systems in alignment with the weekly maintenance schedule while ensuring maintenance practices are in line with industry standards and strive to improve equipment reliability continuously.
Perform fault finding and rectification of systems as required, ensuring high standards of quality and reliability.
Adhere to work management processes, including timely completion of work, proper documentation, and closing out of work orders via SAP.
Raise quality notifications and ensure comprehensive history capture for all maintenance activities.
Identify, evaluate, and implement improvement opportunities using Rio Tinto’s best practices and actively participate in improvement projects, proposing innovative solutions to maintenance processes.
Collaborate with other functions and stakeholders to enhance system performance and reliability.
Apply monitoring, techniques to gather asset health data and provide low-level assessments on asset condition to collaborate with asset management stakeholders.
Perform basic interpretation of data to identify potential asset defects and escalate as required, including performing corrective maintenance tasks.
Manage vendor relationships both on and off-site to support asset protection equipment and maintenance activities.
Provide support to contractors as required for sites visits
Provide Level 2 technical support to ensure the successful operation of wayside systems and asset protection equipment.
Assist with equipment failure investigations and mitigation strategies to improve asset life cycle and contribute to defect component reviews and provide recommendations based on data analysis.
What you’ll bring
Sound understanding of the railway asset protection systems & principles of operation as well as the associated railway safeworking procedures
Strong background in heavy haul rail or mining envrionment
Proven experience in asset protection and monitoring systems
Proven experience in IT/OC systems support
Proficient in SAP and workflow management processes
Proficiency with monitoring and diagnostic tools to support predictive maintenance activities
Strong understanding of weigh scale systems (track-mounted or rail-based preferred).
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Competent with technical documentation.
