ABOUT THE ROLE

The Power Trading Analyst is responsible for the preparation of quantitative analysis to enable FFI’s power trading team to optimise the financial performance of the power portfolio in the National Electricity Market (NEM). Working closely with other members of the Power Portfolio team and the asset operational teams, the role will analyse market conditions and provide analytical support as a key input to the development of FFI’s power trading strategies. The role is also responsible for monitoring the financial performance of those trading strategies and proposing ways to adapt to the changing market conditions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Defining the necessary data, systems and business processes to enable analytical support for the real-time optimisation of FFI’s assets operating in the NEM
  • Developing analytical tools to support the Power Portfolio team’s trading activities and decisions
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial outcomes through detailed physical market and commodity market analysis
  • Developing dispatch algorithms to maintain compliance with the National Electricity Rules (NER) and optimise financial performance in real-time
  • Developing short-term generation forecasts
  • Monitoring the Power Trading team’s financial performance and contributing ways to enhance performance
  • Supporting business investment decisions through robust quantitative analysis

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 5+ years of experience in energy markets or system analysis.
  • Experience with Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) is mandatory.
  • Experience with other energy or commodity markets will be considered favourably.
  • Knowledge of the National Electricity Rules and the NEM power system operation.
  • Knowledge of relevant electricity and environmental OTC and exchange traded products
  • Understanding of the Corporations Act and Competition and Consumer Act
  • Experience in implementing or upgrading energy trading software is desirable
  • Mathematics, commerce, financial markets, economics, engineering, science or other analytical degree.
  • AFMA accreditation is highly desirable
