About the role
We are looking for Train Examiners to perform operational and maintenance tasks within the Mainline and Yard Operations teams, responsible for operation of the rail network.
This role is a great opportunity to join a large-scale Rail Operations team and contribute to the safe and successful delivery of operational activities. Working a 4 days on, 4 off, 4 nights, 4 off roster and reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for the following:
- Brake shoe replacement
- Minor train maintenance
- Rail Safeworking
- Shunting activities
About you
To be considered for this role, you will possess the ability to:
- Be able to perform in a team environment
- Demonstrate a high level of risk perception
- Good communication skills
- Work in accordance with Rio Tinto’s ‘The Way We Work’.
- Maintain regular and effective liaison with operational supervisors, and other key stakeholders to ensure safe operation at all times.
- Ensure compliance with relevant statutory and legislative provisions.
- Maintain and increase skills and knowledge in line with business needs
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Previous Rail Operations experience
- Heavy haulage experience
- Experience in high risk work

Where you will be working
We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
