Trainee Train Driver ( Fixed Term 2 years)

Work Location: Hedland Operations 

Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people

Roster: 8D/8RNR OR 4D/4N/8RNR OR 14D/14RNR – FIFO ex Perth or Port Hedland Residential

An exciting opportunity at Fortescue is open for candidates that have a genuine passion to pursue a career as a Train Driver.  Reporting to the Traineeship Team and the Rail Operations leaders, the program is focused on 24-month Fixed Term. Our experienced team will support, train and mentor candidates with on the job learning and support the studying of a Nationally accredited Certificate IV-TLI42622 Train Driving.

As a Trainee you will be reliable and efficient, positive, open to learning, have safe working practices, be committed to working in a diverse team, managing a FIFO roster and perform all duties in accordance with Network Rules, Regulations and Safe Operating Procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Training to operating all FMG trains over the expanding FMG Network, shunting, locomotive provisioning, general yard work, carry out minor repairs, vehicle checks, and assisting RSM technicians as requested
  • Commitment to safety and be confidents to discuss any risks or behaviours that do not fit our Fortescue Values
  • Be prepared to study a Nationally recognised Certificate IV qualification

Qualification and Experience:

  • Have completed year 12 or equivalent
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety and safe working
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Current C driver’s licence
  • Strong computer literacy in MS Office software
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Must be able to pass a Cat 1 medical
