About the role: We are currently seeking qualified Mechanical tradesmen who are interested in starting a career in underground coal mining as Trainee Underground Fitter at our Wambo mine.  Our Wambo mine complex is a combined Coal Handling & Preparation Plant and Underground mine located 30 kilometres west of Singleton that produce coal for export and domestic markets. 

The scope of your role will be to gain experience as an underground coal mine worker (tradesmen) by learning to perform repairs and maintenance to support mining operations safely and work effectively within a team to ultimately deliver on safety and production targets.

Duties will include:

  • Demonstrate safe behaviours and practices
  • Contribute to the achievement of production targets, ensuring they are met safely and efficiently
  • Perform planned and breakdown maintenance tasks on all underground equipment
  • Fault-finding and repairing mechanical plant and equipment
  • Operate equipment as required
  • Ensure all work is performed to trade standards and meets high standards
  • Complete necessary documentation, planning sheets and work orders

The lifestyle: This position is offered on a roster of 12 hour shifts, 3 days per week (Day shift or Night Shift as required under the needs of the business).

Throughout the traineeship you may be rotated around different mine rosters for experience.

About you:

  • Must possess trade qualifications in a mechanical engineering discipline and a proficiency certificate issued by Training Services NSW
  • Self starter and motivated for a new and rewarding challenge in the UG coal industry
  • Commitment to achievement of business objectives
  • Be an effective communicator and team player 
  • A strong commitment to Health, Safety and Environment workplace standards
  • A strong safety and risk management focus 
  • Reliable

Additional Information:

We are expecting a large number of applicants for these roles, Please be patient whilst the screening process is undertaken which may take a few weeks. Notifications to candidates will not be made until mid to late November.

Prior to formal interviews an information session will be held onsite for the shortlisted candidates along with an Underground visit to ensure suitability.
