Trainer & Assessor – Surface Operations

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Regional Maintenance Trainer and Assessor - Surface Operations supporting the QLD and NSW region. Based in Mackay QLD you will support the General Managers and their teams in continuing to lead improvements in HSET performance. Servicing the QLD and NSW maintenance teams, the successful candidate will deliver internal and High-risk Training and Assessment to our maintenance teams; looking after our fleet of rental equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitor Compliance in consultation with Stakeholders
  • Maintain and ensure training records are compliant
  • Review and manage training needs per site based on Training Needs Analysis
  • Provide training and VOC test and move on Haul Trucks, Loaders, Water Carts, Service Trucks, Excavators and Graders where possible to complete
  • Complete VOC’s for operations including move and test as required and utilise training needs analysis to prioritise training requirements
  • Complete other inhouse training as required such as Isolation and Tagging, permit to work, Risk management training including presenting at Prestart meetings and tool box meetings.
  • Complete high-risk licence training in conjunction with a registered training organisation.
  • Utilise the online Viking Training system to maintain and keep accurate training records for all activities completed.
  • Provide up to date and accurate training matrices to management teams across the region.

Required skills / experience & attributes:

  • Experience with Maintenance Training and Assessing, predominantly move and testing, high risk assessment on EWP, Cranes, Forklifts and Dogging.
  • Conduct HRW Licence VOC Training and Assessments only in the HRW Classes for which you are accredited.a
  • High level knowledge and experience in Health, Safety and/or Environment
  • Previous experience in a similar role; working in a high-risk safety environment, e.g. mining, resources, engineering, construction or manufacturing sectors
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of current legislative requirements and the ability to effectively apply these in the workplace
  • Ability to travel to sites and work flexible rosters to provide training on sites and at workshops
  • Strong ability to work effectively with people
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, as well as time management and a high level of enthusiasm
  • Proven ability to drive cultural change and capability across the region
  • Hands-on can do attitude
  • Demonstrated willingness to support operations

  • Demonstrated high level of computer literacy (MS Office, HSE management systems)

In addition, you will be in possession of the following:

  • Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116)
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Current Coal Board Medical
  • Current Standard 11
  • Supervisor Competencies - S123 and G2
  • TAESS0015 Enterprise Trainer, Infield Trainer & Assessor
  • High Risk Work Licence (HRWL)

3 or more years of relevant work experience in the resources sector and be highly competent and hold competencies in a variety of disciplines including but not limited to:

  • RIIHAN301D Operate Elevating Work Platform (scissor lift) – Desired but not essential
  • RIIHAN305D Operate a gantry or overhead crane. – Desired but not essential
  • IIHAN309F Conduct telescopic materials handler operations. – Desired but not essential
  • RIIHAN311F Conduct operations with integrated tool carrier. – Desired but not essential
  • RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces. – Desired but not essential
  • RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights. – Desired but not essential
  • TLILIC0003 Licence to operate a forklift truck. – Desired but not essential
  • TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 meters or more) – Desired but not essential
