About the Role
Through BHP’s Future Fit Academy, we are providing a nationally standardised curriculum for trade apprenticeships and maintenance traineeships. The first two campuses have been established in Perth, Western Australia and Mackay, Queensland. These facilities include virtual reality simulation training and full mobile equipment and fixed plant workshops.
The Future Fit Academy Perth is growing, and we are seeking multiple opportunities for experienced and skilled tradespersons to become a trainer and be part of this amazing venture to develop the future maintenance workforce at BHP.
These roles are based in Welshpool, Perth and will involve working a 4/4/4 roster - 4 days, 4 afternoons and 4 days off (8.5 hour shifts). These roles are not FIFO.
Reporting to the Supervisor Future Fit Academy the Trainer Apprenticeships will work closely with the students in both classroom and workshop sessions as well as working with the Specialist Apprenticeships and relevant subject matter experts to ensure that the training materials are kept current and relevant to the trade.

About You
We are looking for highly motivated persons with strong interpersonal skills to lead and implement change, and demonstrate the ability influence, coach and model BHP values and behaviours.
Qualifications & experience:
- Hold a relevant trade qualification in one or more of the following:
- Heavy Diesel Fitting
- Mechanical/Plant Fitting
- Fabrication
- Auto Electrical
- Or have equivalent experience in the above trades
- Hold a Cert IV Training Assessment TAE40116 (desirable but not essential)
You will demonstrate:
- Experience of working with apprentices/trainees in an operational technical environment within mining or heavy industry
- Exposure or some knowledge of Vocational Education and Training (VET) legislation
- Diversity of thought and practical experience will be embraced
- Ability to train a wide variety of learning styles and cater for language, literacy & numeracy requirements as well as other learning needs
- Experience working within the mining industry would be preferable
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively coach to improve performance and upskill
