About the Role

Through BHP’s Future Fit Academy we are providing a nationally standardised curriculum for trade apprenticeships and maintenance traineeships. The first two campuses have been established at existing BHP warehouse and repair facilities in Welshpool in Perth and Mackay in Queensland. They include virtual reality simulation training and full mobile equipment and fixed plant workshops.

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Heavy Diesel Fitter to come and be part of this amazing opportunity to develop our future workforce at our Mackay facility.

The role is based in Mackay and will involve working a 4/4/4 roster - 4 days, 4 afternoons and 4 days off, rosters are subject to change based on business requirements.  These roles are not FIFO. The Trainer - Apprenticeships will work closely with the students in both classroom and workshop sessions as well as working with the Supervisor Apprenticeships, Specialist Apprenticeships and relevant subject matter experts to ensure that the training materials are kept current and relevant to the trade.

About You

If you are a qualified Heavy Diesel Tradesperson and are passionate about developing others we are looking for you. Ideally you will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Trade qualification ideally in Heavy Diesel with Auto Electrical experience;
  • Demonstrated experience and background of working with apprentices/trainees in an operational technical environment within mining or heavy industry;
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment highly desirable or has the ability to obtain the qualification;
  • Exposure or some knowledge of Vocational Education and Training (VET) legislation would be advantageous;
  • Willingness to lead and implement change, as well as influence, coach and model BHP values and behaviours.
