The OS Technical Capability Team is focussed on ensuring our highly capable people are well-equipped, trained, authorised and work-ready for deployment at any of our Western Australian locations.

We now have an opportunity in our Team for an enthusiastic and driven individual who is passionate about sharing knowledge and enabling people to be the best they can be.  

The purpose of an OS Trainer Assessor is to develop and maintain the levels of competency within the OS workforce to achieve and sustain operational performance. 

This role, reporting to the Supervisor Technical Capability, is site-based 8 days on, 6 days off. FIFO (Perth to Pilbara sites).

The work of this role includes:

  • Active participation, compliance, and contribution to the effective operation of BHP’s relevant Health and Safety policies and systems. 
  • The delivery of competency-based training to individuals or groups, conducting practical assessments for specific equipment, confirming team members are skilled, competent and authorised to work. Input to design, development and assurance of training materials to ensure they are maintained in line with business and industry standards.
  • Coaching and mentoring team members on the identification of improvement opportunities and implementation of solutions relating to standardised work.

About You

This role would suit candidates holding one of the below qualifications or similar vocational experience and or a willingness to obtain:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessing (TAE40110, TAE40116 or TAE40122)
  • Assessor Skill Set (TAESS00011 or TAESS00019)
  • Diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience as a trainer, coach, assessor or educator in a comparable industry and environment.
  • Strong communication and engagement skills and proven ability to engage and build relationships with mine site leaders, tradespeople, technicians and new-to-industry team members.
  • Very good organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge and experience in training and development in the resources industry would be highly regarded.
  • Accreditation with WA WorkSafe as a High-Risk Work Assessor (Desirable)
  • High-Risk Work licences. (Desirable) WP - Boom-type elevating work platform, LF - Forklift truck, DG – Dogging and RB - Basic rigging.

Exposure or a solid understanding of the following is an advantage:

•    Working Safely at height training•    Enter and work in confined Spaces training.•    Fire extinguisher training•    Telehandler training•    Verification of competency training/assessment.
