About the role

Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd (“TRQ”) was fully acquired by Rio Tinto in December 2022 and is now 100% owned by Rio Tinto, the diversified mining company dual listed in the United Kingdom and Australia. The TRQ group of entities is currently being restructured, with activities being integrated into Rio Tinto. This role is a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to a major restructuring project that will deliver significant synergies and value to Rio Tinto.

We are looking for an experienced Finance Manager who will be responsible for the financial services and internal and external financial reporting requirements for the TRQ group of companies. You will work with multiple stakeholders and lead the finance workstreams for the entity restructuring and integration projects including the SAP and HFM implementation project for the TRQ entities retained at the end of the restructuring project.

Reporting to the GM, Finance Business Partner, Copper you will:

  • Lead and review the planning process, monthly forecasting, cost reporting and variance analysis.
  • Manage the month end close and be responsible for finance and accounting support to consolidate the financial data for the TRQ group of entities, including journal and recharges review, review data loads, half yearly and annual requirements, and preparation of accounting position papers.
  • Review Oyu Tolgoi and non-Oyu Tolgoi funding arrangements, including documentation, schedules and any compliance and governance requirements.
  • Manage the banking support, including review of reconciliations and any changes to banking mandates, and drive rationalisation of the TRQ bank accounts.
  • Manage the relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Tax, Legal and Treasury and FAS teams, Oyu Tolgoi finance team, external auditors, and 3rd party providers of finance and accounting services for the TRQ entities.
  • Responsible for compliance and external reporting, including financial statement preparation, analysis, filing documents and Statistics Canada reports.
  • Coordinate the annual audit and half yearly review activities of external auditors.
  • Prepare commentary and review the annual stand-alone financial statements for subsidiaries in Mongolia, Singapore, Australia, and the Netherlands.
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities, lead various project work and provide financial support to achieve business objectives.
  • Review the annual insurance questionnaire and coordinate sign-off with GM FBP Copper.
  • Ensure governance and compliance through effective application of financial controls and risk management.
  • Lead development of the RTBS (SAP) and HFM roadmap, transition and go-live requirements for the retained TRQ entities.

About you 

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelors’ degree and/or professional qualification (eg, CA, CPA) is essential.
  • Experience across a full range of standard business, finance and presentation toolkits (SAP, PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBI, etc.) and an aptitude to use technology to solve problems and enable increased efficiency and performance improvement.
  • Challenge the status quo, bringing a business improvement mindset.
  • A proactive nature and collaboration skills, to build trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proven engagement and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both face to face and remotely.
  • Hands on experience that includes audit, internal controls and/or financial accounting is required.
  • Experience with IFRS and multi-national regulatory reporting requirements is required.
