It is an exciting time to be a part of Newcrest’s journey to building Australia’s largest and most technically advanced block cave. We are building our mining development expertise for our panel caving expansion works for phase three to extend our vision of a 50-year mine life for Cadia.

Operations near and far

Our Cadia site is located in Central West New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional town of Orange and three hours’ drive from Sydney. Employees reside in the varied accommodation options in Orange, with the surrounding winery and national park areas to enjoy. Have access to the area’s wide range of amenities, including a prominent health sector, excellent educational facilities, shopping, transport and other services such as childcare.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking skilled and motivated Longhole Drillers to carry out the safe and productive operation of production longhole drill rigs to achieve desired production firings. Reporting to the Development Supervisor, this safety-critical role will see you read and accurately follow mine instruction plans with skill and precision ensuring holes are drilled to the design.

Key deliverables include:

  • Perform accurate uphole and downhole drilling to the design requirements
  • Read ground conditions and in consultation with Supervisor, and where ground conditions require, stop the job and request additional ground support to be installed
  • Maintain equipment in clean and reliable working condition
  • Responsibility for achieving daily, monthly and yearly budget and schedule outcomes
  • Carry out additional tasks as required such as mine services work

To ensure success in this role, you will demonstrate proactive involvement in safety, quality and business improvements. Utilising your excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will promote a team-based culture and exhibit genuine cooperation with other departments to achieve effective working relationships.

In addition, you will also have:

  • Proven experience across underground hardrock mining operations
  • Efficient operation of underground long hole drills, preferably E7C Simba
  • Ability to read, interpret and accurately execute long hole drill designs
  • High level of safety awareness with a can-do attitude
  • A valid Australian Driver’s Licence

Please note: This is a residential Fixed-Term Contract until 31 August 2024, based near Orange NSW with a family friendly roster of 7 days On/ 7 Off/ 7 nights On/ 7 Off.
