Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.  

Cannington have exciting opportunities for students in their penultimate year, studying any of the following disciplines:   

• Geotechnical Engineering

With operations located across Australia, our Vacation program runs over a 12-week period and is a pathway to our Graduate Program.  Our Vacation Program provides practical and hands-on experience to develop new skills and gain technical, professional, and hands-on experience required to build your career and reach your potential. 

The vacation program provides you with a unique opportunity to learn and excel in your chosen career. When you join the South32 Vacation Program you will:  

• Gain practical and meaningful experience at your preferred operation  
• Undertake a project relevant to your degree that you will own and deliver  
• Extend your professional network with colleagues from across the globe

To be eligible, you will: 

• Be in your penultimate year of study 
• Have the right to live and work in Australia 
• Be available for the full duration of the 12-week program – commencing November 2023
