Illawarra Metallurgical Coal is a long term and market leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and an extensive logistics support chain.

About the role

Numerous permanent full-time opportunities based at our Appin coal mine.

As an Underground Deputy, you will supervise and lead teams of mining personnel in the safe and effective delivery of coal production targets, ensuring adherence to all regulatory compliance.

Key accountabilities 

• Supervise workers and inspection of work areas, as well as monitoring of statutory compliance in line with current mining legislation and site Safety Management Systems
• Focus crew members on working safely whilst delivering the task at hand, and recognising potentially hazardous environments through task and risk analysis
• Report to Under Manager on safety and compliance status of designated work area
• Ensure that all statutory and relevant production shift reports are completed, inclusive of relevant status, progress and event details

About you

You will possess a natural a passion and commitment for workplace safety, with a drive to exceed expectations and achieve operational targets and improvements. Your strong interpersonal leadership skills will be crucial to your success in this role.

To be considered for the role, you must have: 

• Solid background working in a similar role at an underground coal mine
• NSW Deputy Mining Supervisor qualification
• Generic Underground Coal Induction and CABA certification
• Valid Driver’s Licence
• Candidates who are due to sit or have recently completed their oral examinations are encouraged to apply and will be considered assuming they successfully obtain the required qualification

Location

The Appin mine is located in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.
