Deflector Gold/Copper Mine is Silver Lake’s flagship operation, and one of the highest margin, lowest cost mines in Australia. Significant recent financial investment in the operation to expand the Processing plant and create a second decline to access the South-West ore zones demonstrate the ongoing importance of this asset to the company’s success. Mining approximately 70 000 ore tonnes per month, for an average grade of 5.0g/T Gold and 0.2% Copper, Deflector is a technically challenging, high grade ore body with a bright future.
THE ROLE
As the Underground Manager for Deflector, you will take overall responsibility for Mining Production success, encompassing leadership, contractor management and overall technical & practical direction for the mine. Leading a high-performing team of Mining Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers and Surveyors, you will continue the collaborative and successful relationship with mining contractor, Macmahon. This key leadership role will have a high level of impact in the operation’s ongoing success and offers the opportunity to expand your skills in a fast paced and exciting narrow-vein Gold operation.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Generate and deliver to optimised budgets, schedules, mine plans to meet company strategy, ensuring accountability for costs
- Ensure compliance with all legislative and statutory requirements, as well as internal Company management standards
- Work collaboratively with the Mine Geology and Processing teams to ensure maximum value is extracted from the Resource
- Achieve dynamic and value-adding working relationships with the site service teams & Corporate support services
- Continually improve the operations by developing, mentoring and inspiring your team to achieve exceptional standards of technical and practical expertise
- Foster a culture of high performance, continuous improvement and camaraderie
- Mining Contractor claims assessment, approvals and variations
- Manage and empower site contractors to deliver to agreed metrics, and monitor performance against expectations
- Act as a Senior representative of the Company, including liaising with external stakeholders
- Act in the role of Alternate Senior Site Executive as required
ABOUT YOU
You are a level-headed and driven individual with a track record of successfully delivering Underground Mining projects to an exceptional standard. You can deftly navigate challenges and obstacles with a measured and analytical approach. You have exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to guide a team to a common vision and purpose, and work collaboratively with peers and contractors alike.
You can demonstrate your experience in the following areas:
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
- Western Australian First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency
- 10+ years’ experience in underground mining
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role
- Success with managing mining contractors
- Strong understanding of mining functions applicable to narrow vein underground gold mining, including geotechnical and blasting considerations
- Strong working knowledge and application of MSOffice Suite, Deswik and Surpac or equivalent software
- Excellent organisational, analytical and communication skills
- A drive and passion for safe work practices exceeding industry standards using innovative initiatives
- An ability to creating an enjoyable workplace where success is recognised and is the norm

This role is offered on an 8:6 FIFO roster or equivalent, with salary in line with level of responsibility in addition to applicable Short and Long term incentive schemes.
