With over a century of mining history, Darlot Mine is a cornerstone operation of Vault Minerals Limited producing high-grade gold production. With a strong legacy, Darlot Mine is focused on the future, optimising production and driving exploration programs to extend the mine’s lifespan and uncover new resources. The Darlot mine is located about 900 km northeast of Perth and 121 km north of Leonora, in the Goldfields Region of Western Australia.
Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the Planning Engineer is responsible for creating and optimizing short-term and long-term mine plans to ensure safe and efficient ore extraction in alignment with the Life of Mine (LOM) strategy.
This includes developing detailed stope designs, layouts, and production schedules, while collaborating closely with geological, geotechnical, and operational teams. The role requires regular updates to mine plans based on new geological data, operational feedback, or safety and regulatory considerations specific to Darlot's underground environment. A critical focus is on identifying cost-effective mining methods that enhance resource recovery while mitigating operational risks.
The position will be offered on an 8:6 FIFO roster from Perth.
Key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Assist in creating detailed short-term to long-term mine plans (1-18 months), consistently integrating geological, geotechnical, and operational data provided by senior team members.
- Generate detailed stope designs and development layouts, incorporating geological and geotechnical guidance.
- Develop and maintain accurate extraction and development short term schedules in alignment with approved mine strategies and targets.
- Regularly update mine plans to reflect new geological insights, operational feedback, and compliance requirements as guided by the Senior Mining Engineer.
- Actively engage with geological, geotechnical, drill-and-blast, and operational teams to gather input and ensure practical and efficient plan designs.
- Assist in identifying potential operational risks within planning activities and propose effective mitigation strategies to the Senior Mining Engineer.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) checks by reviewing actual development and stope performance against planned metrics. Identify any deviations from plan, assess their impact, and work with stakeholders to resolve discrepancies. Document findings and continuously refine planning processes to improve design accuracy and operational predictability.
- Effectively utilising mine design software such as Deswik to deliver high-quality mine planning outputs.
- Adhere strictly to Australian mining regulations, site safety protocols, and environmental standards.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or a related discipline with experience in underground mining operations with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in drill and blast and production roles.
