Deflector Operation, located 160km east of Geraldton, consists of two independent, high-grade, narrow vein gold/copper mines, Deflector and Deflector Southwest. Two new mining areas, Spanish Galleon and Contact, are currently being developed from Deflector Southwest in order maintain the current production profile (~40Kt ore/month) over the next 4 years.
Reporting to the OSH&T Manager, the Underground Trainer will provide expert advice, guidance, and support to ensure compliance with all occupational health, safety, and training requirements within a mining environment. This role works closely with operational leaders, contractors, and employees to promote a strong safety culture, minimise risk, and ensure training competencies are maintained in accordance with legislative, company, and site requirements.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Generate analysis of department training requirements and where appropriate, establish training calendars, select programs etc.
- Develop, review and facilitate the presentation of internal training programs.
- Deliver training programs and coordinate the internal and external training programs including regular auditing, review and assessment of training material and its effectiveness within own operational area.
- Work collaboratively with other training personnel to share resources.
- Develop and implement a competency framework and assessment programs
- Ensure area specific training material is up to date and delivered to internal personnel and visitors.
- Develop and maintain a training needs matrix for departmental personnel
- Assist with the development of individual training plans by providing support to managers and supervisors.
- Regularly monitor and provide feedback to department managers and supervisors on training initiatives, outcomes and logistical issues.
- Review practices and procedures and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Contribute to maintaining site certification in OHSAS18001, AS4801 and ISO14001 quality standards by maintaining accurate, current training records and addressing non-conformances in a timely manner.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
- Cert 4 Training and Assessing and ICAM Investigation training (Desirable)
- Excellent knowledge and compliance of all relevant Workplace Health & Safety legislations and Regulations.
- Previous experience working in a mining environment, focusing on the design and delivery of job-specific training competencies.
- Proficient in the use of MS office suite, Pronto, INX suite.
- Hold a current WA C Manual Driver’s License
