About the role

This is a full-time permanent opportunity working on shift with fixed roster that is based either on a Monday to Thursday or Friday to Sunday roster shift pattern.

Reporting to the Manager Mining Engineering at Appin, you will ensure the execution of the shift plan, while monitoring and coordinating statutory compliance with current mining legislation and the site Safety Management System.

You are the primary point of contact on shift and will have the statutory responsibilities.

Key accountabilities –

• Retain single point accountability for statutory compliance or internal safety management standards for the mine
• Delivering the shift plan production and maintenance targets for the area
• Responding to breakdowns in accordance with the escalation process
• Chair start of shift and end of shift debrief meetings with Deputies
• Coach and mentor Deputies
• Compile shift statutory and production reports
• Encourage team members to drive effective hazard and risk identification, reporting and investigation to reduce incidents and injuries/illnesses

About you

You will have significant experience working at an underground coal operation and have a passion for driving a team to succeed with a focus on safety and continuous improvement.

To be considered for the role, you will have:

• Practicing Certificate and Certificate of Competence to be an Undermanager at an underground coal mine
• Exceptional safety leadership with an ability to identify and eliminate hazards in the workplace
• Project and/or Study Management experience
• Understanding of planning/scheduling, change management and risk management
• Demonstrated capability to successfully lead and influence others within a multi-functional and diverse team
• Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

Location

This position will be based at the Appin mine which is in the southern coalfields of New South Wales. The mine is located near the coastal city of Wollongong, which is approximately 30 kms away and is approximately 75 kilometres southwest of Sydney.
