About the Role

At Carrapateena, we care that everyone goes home safe to do the things they love.Located 472 kilometres north-west of Adelaide, South Australia, Carrapateena is part of our Minerals Australia operations, within the Copper South Australia province. The mine is located on the traditional land of the Kokatha people. Carrapateena produces copper concentrate and is one of the largest mining projects in South Australia in the last decade.
As a Ventilation Technician you will create positive working relationships with the mining team, and work closely in particular with Shift Supervisors and Service Crew Operators. Your proactive communication skills will aid your success as you navigate and create ventilation strategies that are best for our mine.Your well-developed analytical thinking will be essential to this role as you undertake underground real time measuring and adjustment of ventilation plans, strategies and practices.
Location: Carrapateena: South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)Roster: 8 days on; 6 days off, 7 nights on; 7 nights offEmployment Type: Permanent Full-Time
In this role you will:
- Use your analytical thinking to undertake underground real time measuring and adjusting of production Ventilation on Demand (VOD) system to ensure the system is running optimally to meet the mine priorities. This includes maximizing operating fleet, managing Radon Decay Products (RDP) in production levels and setting production levels to in casting prior to end of shift firing
- Assist with commissioning of VOD system including calibration of Butterfly Flow Sensors, Louvre AQS Station Readings and total fan output
- Adjust UG ventilation, particularly the VOD system, to manage RDPs with full 24-hour coverage
- Monitor underground environment per instructions from the site hygiene team inclusive of RDP, Dust, Acoustic, DPM and Gamma
- Secondary Ventilation audits & inspections in underground work environments
- Collaborate and assist the Ventilation Supervisor with Primary Ventilation Surveys
- Analyse site temperature surveys to ensure that underground temperatures are regularly monitored and TWL procedure is being followed
- Assist in verifying the completion of issued Ventilation Plans
About You
- Previous underground mining experience (highly regarded)
- Proven analytical thinking, with well-developed problem-solving abilities
- Self-driven to improve the way we work and the outcomes of the mining operation
- Ventilation experience, particularly installation and maintenance of ventilation systems (preferred but not essential)
- Ability to learn new skills or advance your current skills, for which training will be provided
- Current Drivers Licence with experience driving a manual vehicle underground or willing to learn
- Knowledge of MS Office packages including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
