Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Perth – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people. 

 

Roster: Monday to Friday 

 

12-month fixed term or secondment 

 

The Intermediate Water Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering detailed design deliverables (under the guidance of a Senior Design Engineer) associated with water infrastructure projects across Fortescue’s mine sites. The intermediate design engineer will compile designs according to Australian and Fortescue standards in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Hydraulic modelling of pipelines, borefields, pump stations, ponds, tanks etc.
  • Preparation and compilation of technical deliverables in a work package consisting of construction drawings, quantity estimate, scope definition and liaising with key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate design reviews including field inspection, stakeholder requirements and conformity to basis of design criteria.
  • Develop final engineering deliverables including but not limited to pipeline schematics, GA's, P&ID's and critical equipment selection.
  • Input to capital estimates including quantity calculations (including compilation of MTOs).
  • Construction support through Technical Queries and updates to design deliverable documentation as required.
  • Produce equipment data sheets and evaluate vendor proposals for budget and technical compliance.
  • Ensure designs are produced in accordance with statutory regulations, project requirements, good practice and procedural requirements.
  • Clear and timely communication regarding design progress, changes, risks and issues.
  • Liaison, support and timely transfer of information to other disciplines.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (preferred),
  • Chemical Engineering or Civil Engineering may be considered if candidate has exposure to/experience in piping systems and pipeline design.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Clear communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Understanding of discipline technology and other discipline requirements.
  • Understanding of Australian and common international standards and regulatory authority requirements in the mining and water industries.
  • Ability to travel to site if required (short trips for scoping and stakeholder engagement).
  • Exposure to Visio, ArcGIS Pro (preferable).
  • A problem-solving mentality with the ability to "think outside of the box".
  • Ability to self-start and deliver on schedule and on budget.
