Water Engineer

Work Location: Chichester Hub - Fortescue’s Chichester hub is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth

Reporting to the Senior Water Management Engineer at Chichester Water Management, the Water Engineer will provide engineering, planning and technical support to the Operational and Maintenance Dewatering team, to enable the team to meet it’s Safety, Cost and Performance objectives.

The successful candidate is a self-learner who actively seeks opportunities for process improvement and innovation. Ideally you will be driven and passionate about your work, able to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside of your comfort zone.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and continuously improve on bore pump install plans and system isolation scopes.
  • Maintain and update operational asset registers, databases and other key technical documentation such as the site system schematic.
  • Actively identify and lead improvements to documented standards, specifications and processes.
  • Work to continuously optimise and improve the efficiency of the dewatering and water supply network.
  • Produce system curves of pumped systems for pump selection and hydraulic analysis.
  • Develop and rollout annual pit flood response plans.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders such as the Planning, Mining, and Project teams to ensure delivered assets meets department’s requirements.
  • Review and integrate new assets delivered by the Project team into the department’s systems, registers and databases.

Education and Experience:

  • Tertiary degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil or Environmental) with some experience in a water system design and/or operations environment.
  • System curve and/or hydraulic modelling experience is desirable.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, in particular Excel.
  • Experience using GIS and CAD software such as ArcGIS and AutoCAD.
  • Effective and influential communication at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to take initiative, work autonomously and as part of a team, to achieve milestones.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
