About You
Reporting to the Principal Water Engineer, the Water Engineer will complete / support conceptual assessments and design of hydraulic and/or hydrology related aspects on a wide variety of mining projects (throughout all design phases) and operations. The position is based at Perth Head Office, with regular travel to site (approximately 2 days per month). Key accountabilities:
- Conceptual design and review of water supply, dewatering pumping systems and/or surface water diversions and associated infrastructure
- Update dewatering and surface water management plans to reflect changes to mine development and capital projects executed and planned
- Contribute to development of the life of mine water management plans and capital submissions
- Facilitate, direct and review the work of Contractors and Consultants; and,
- Provide input and guidance to site operational teams on dewatering infrastructure operation / design to ensure compliance to BHP Water Standards and Water Stewardship mandate
- Provide technical support and review engineering assessments for environmental approval submissions
Capabilities Required
- Demonstrable experience in mine dewatering systems, borefields, and mine site services (process, potable, wastewater systems)
- Demonstrable experience in surface water assessment, including water resource management, flood modelling, storage requirements, flood diversions, pipe crossings, drains, and culverts
- Strong project management and collaboration skills
- Good communication and engagement skills
- Stakeholder engagement, influencing and collaboration
Technical Competencies
Minimum 5 years’ experience in:
- Hydraulic Modelling Software – EPAnet, WaterGems or similiar
- Hydrologic Modelling Software – HECRAS, TuFlow or similiar
- Microsoft Excel
- GIS software – preferably ArcGIS or GlobalMapper
Desirable
- Experience working in a team with Hydrogeologists
- Project Management across functional and operational teams
- Exposure across a broad spectrum of business activities and processes
- 5 years' experience working in a Water Engineering Role with proven development and delivery of hydraulic and/or hydrology assessments
