About the Role

BHP owns, operates and maintains a significant amount of water infrastructure. The range of assets includes drinking water systems, waste water systems, integrated surplus water systems, and water dams to service our FIFO villages, airports, mines, port, rail operations and communities in which we operate.  This infrastructure is growing and changing with our business.

The Water Operations Specialist is a key role in facilitating the ongoing operational efficiency of the NPI and WAIO water teams by ensuring that all operational regulatory compliance and asset performance requirements are achieved

Reporting to the NPI Superintendent Water – Operational Technical and Compliance, success in this role will be achieved by: 

  • Ensuring that existing assets do not pose an underlying key risk to the business
  • Ensuring a clear governance plan will be in place for the compliant management of potable water infrastructure
  • Ensuring all operational procedures, tactical response procedure, and emergency response procedures align to the critical control requirements for our material risks.

About You

To be successful in this role you will be a highly collaborative and team oriented professional who possesses extensive experience in water utilities regulatory environment and requirements.

In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience: 

  • Ideally you will be Degree qualified in Engineering / Science or relevant trade with water industry experience
  • Working knowledge of ADWG, ANCOLD, Drinking Water Schemes, Drinking Water Protection plants, and Source protection plans
  • Demonstrated experience of the Water Services Act
  • Exposure to Water Asset Management
  • Experience with coordinating and working with external regulators and stakeholders
  • Experience with water treatment plant optimization and working collaboratively with trades maintenance teams
