Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is an open cut mine that provides the opportunity to live and work locally. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both dragline and load haul systems for their continuous operations. The MTW Mine is the largest open cut operation in the region, employing approximately 1,450 people who reside in the local and surrounding communities.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Yancoal MTW is seeking an experienced and motivated Water-Tailings Management Compliance Coordinator to join the Operations Support and Projects team on a permanent full-time basis.
Reporting to the OS&P Superintendent, this role will be responsible ensuring the sites water and tailings facilities are being managed and operated in accordance with legislative requirements, as well as developing standards, improvements, integration and coordination of water and tailings management practices in accordance with rehabilitation/closure practices at MTW.
Key responsibilities include:
- Champion and provide project management/supervision of activities delivering water and tailings management in accordance with laws and regulations;
- Co-ordination and standardisation of water and tailings compliance practices across site;
- Facilitate management of site water inventory including optimising the operation for rain, drought and licence discharge points;
- Ensure water management activities are completed in accordance with sites Rehab Management Plan and Water Management Plan;
- Develop strategies for the rehabilitation/closure of tailings facilities
- Provide support and guidance to site teams re water and tailings management initiatives;
- Co-ordination of design, scheduling, budgeting and implementation of water and tailings management activities;
- Internal and external auditing of facilities and improvement of site practices; and
- Develop, enhance processes for water and tailings compliance in accordance with laws and regulations regarding mine rehabilitation/closure.

Essential Criteria:
- Relevant qualifications in Engineering;
- Practical and proven experience in Supervision/Coordination of activities delivering water and tailings management in accordance with laws and regulations;
- Ability to communicate and liaise effectively across a variety of stakeholders;
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve and adapt to the challenges within a fast paced, large open pit mining environment;
- Ability to facilitate and drive common goals between teams on site;
- Ability to lead and enhance teamwork between site groups;
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritise and organise effectively;
- Proven ability in driving operational efficiencies through effective teamwork and innovation.
Desirable criteria:
- Relevant qualifications in an Engineering Field (Civil/Environmental);
- Practical and proven experience in leading and managing civil projects and/or open cut mining activities;
- Design experience in activities delivering water and tailings management in accordance with laws and regulations regarding mine rehabilitation/closure.
- Contractor management experience
