About the role
We're looking for motivated Diesel Fitter Apprentices to join Rio Tinto's Operations in Weipa. Starting in early 2027, these roles offer the opportunity to build a rewarding trade career while gaining hands-on experience across a range of operational areas.
This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic self-starters who enjoy working with machinery, solving problems, and learning practical skills in a dynamic mining environment.
As a Diesel Fitter Apprentice, you will:
- Develop practical trade skills and technical knowledge in the maintenance and repair of heavy mobile equipment and plant.
- Work towards completing a nationally recognised apprenticeship through a combination of on-the-job learning, internal training and external study (including TAFE).
- Learn from experienced tradespeople and industry specialists while receiving ongoing support from dedicated apprentice mentors.
- Contribute to safe, reliable and environmentally responsible operations as part of a collaborative team.
- Gain exposure to a variety of equipment, systems and maintenance practices used across Rio Tinto's Weipa operations.

- Live in Weipa or the surrounding region.
- Have completed, or be currently completing, Year 12.
- Be available to work across both Amrun and Andoom locations in different rotations
