About the Role

  • Pathway for a Mining Engineer to develop their skills into an Underground Mine Manager
  • FIFO family friendly roster working 8 days on 6 days off
  • Work with one of the most sustainable nickel producers in the world

This is an exciting opportunity for a Mining Engineer who is looking to further their career and take the right steps towards becoming a Underground Mine Manager. Starting as the Underground Production Supervisor at our Nickel West Cliffs mine site, reporting to the Superintendent Mining Production, this role will manage the day-to-day control and supervision of the mine, by;

  • Managing workloads and allocating duties across the production team to deliver the mine plan and ensure all development targets are achieved;
  • Ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Mines Safety Inspection Regulations;
  • Routine, personal inspection and daily interactions, monitoring performance of equipment and compliance with operating procedures; and
  • Maximising compliance with the operational plan, ensuring that all activities under the supervisors control are carried out in accordance with the planned activities and work instructions.

Nickel West is a fully integrated mine-to-market business operating in various locations across Western Australia. All nickel operations (open-cut and underground mines, concentrators, a smelter and refinery) are located in Western Australia.

About You

In having a Bachelor’s of Mining degree (or equivalent) combined with prior underground experience, you’ll have the foundation which will enable us to support you in pursuing both your Underground Supervisors ticket and/or First Class Mine Managers certification.

The minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity are;

  • A Bachelor’s of Mining degree or its equivalent or in progress of completing
  • Underground hard rock mining experience
  • Working towards obtaining an Underground Supervisor ticket or First Class Mine Managers Certification is advantageous
  • Effective communication and leadership skills and ability to build relationships across workgroups
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and team engagement
  • Experience with auditing, inspection and safety compliance
  • Prior experience leading, coaching and mentoring teams
  • Preferred, completion of underground practical shifts

It will be your ability to lead by example, be proactive and prioritise Field Leadership activities which will influence your success and that of the team, and your adept leadership and coaching will have a positive impact on our safety culture, a key priority as outlined in Our Charter.
