Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is an open cut mine that provides the opportunity to live and work locally. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both dragline and load haul systems for their continuous operations. The MTW Mine is the largest open cut operation in the region, employing approximately 1,450 people who reside in the local and surrounding communities.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated Drill and Blast Mining Engineer to join the Technical Services team. Reporting to the Drill and Blast Superintendent Engineering, you will be responsible for delivering quality drill and blast engineering outputs through designing, monitoring, and communicating effective mine designs.
This role requires strong communication and engagement within the Technical Services team and Site Operations. You will be part of a successful team that enjoys what they do and value’s each other’s contributions.
The role will also require you to:
• Complete weekly and monthly planning of efficient drill and blast activities to meet production requirements. • Communicate and implement designs and schedules through daily interactions within the Mining and Technical services teams. • Monitor the drill and blast operations on a daily basis. • Identify improvement initiatives and provide engineering support in achieving improvements to plan. • Ensure compliance to legislative requirements and site standards. • Maintain strong communication and engagement within the Mining Operations.

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes:
• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or in a related Engineering discipline. • Previous experience in Drill and Blast design within an open cut mining environment. • Experience with CAD design software packages such as Deswik, Shot Plus, or Vulcan. • An eye for detail and an ability to develop practical and achievable drill and blast designs and schedules. • Effective communication and time management skills coupled with an ability to problem-solve. • Ability to build effective relationship with key stakeholders across the business. • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite. • Ability to deliver intricate blasts that align with our social license to operate. • A can-do attitude and a positive impact on culture. • Sound knowledge of relevant Mining Legislation and industry practice. • Strong numerical analysis and data validation skills. • Experience with Blast Logic.
