About Mt Arthur Coal

Mt Arthur Coal is an open-cut coal mine 100 per cent owned by BHP. Located in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales it's the largest producer of energy coal in the region, operating alongside olive growers, wine makers, horse breeders and the nearby residential community of Muswellbrook.Our greatest asset is and has always been our people and communities, which is why we are committed to working together on our Pathway to 2030 - a program to responsibly close Mt Arthur Coal. About the Role

As the Contract Mining Principal Strategy and Planning you will be a key player in ensuring that Mt Arthur is successful in maximizing value with Thiess, BHP’s mining partner at Mt Arthur South.

Reporting to the Manager Contract Mining, this role is site based on a Monday-Friday roster and will assist in verifying, facilitating and protecting BHP’s interests in the turn-key mining contract in which Thiess undertake mine planning, drill & blast and load-haul-dump activities in a separate statutory area in MAC south.

This role will require an effective communicator who is both strategic and hands-on and can engage effectively with individuals and teams across a diverse organization and our mining partners Thiess.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing performance, managing production and planning key performance indicators (KPIs) and optimizing short-to-medium-term mine plans;
  • Compare mid-term plans to Long term plans, while reviewing Review and monitor key contract milestones and deliverables;
  • Provide guidance to Thiess and work with BHP Technical Services and Production teams to ensure best for business decisions are made;
  • Looking forward within the mine plan to look for opportunities for improvements to the mine plan based on business requirements;
  • Participating in and leading field leadership interactions, safety inspections and audits to ensure that Thiess are complying with BHP HSEC standards;
  • Completing Control Owner Effectiveness Tests on relevant controls to the production area to ensure the critical controls are working as intended at Mt Arthur South;
  • Maintaining an on-going presence in the field to ensure that Thiess are applying best practice through-seam and on-seam coal recovery methods and complying with contractual quality management requirements;
  • Participating in the BHP Operating Systems and other operational continuous improvement forums and projects to standardize work, maximise productivity, performance and coal resource recovery;
  • Mentoring the Contract Mining specialists on production and planning and assist with day to day production and planning activities during times of absence.

About You

The nature of this role requires you to be well rounded with exposure to all aspects of mining operations, mine planning, processing, risk and operational management. Experience in Mid-Long term planning is highly desirable for the role.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential, allowing you to influence others while also enabling you to build relationships across teams and departments.

The ability to obtain a full pit LV license is essential.
