About the Opportunity:

Play a critical role in our business driving health, safety, environment and training strategies and initiatives across our Queensland operations. You will partner with and provide ongoing support to key projects and our QLD workforce of over 500 people.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Proactively drive company safety, environment and quality policies, practices and procedures in compliance with Management Plans and health and safety legislative requirements to provide a safe workplace at all times;
  • Provide guidance and leadership to site-based Project Safety Coordinators and Project Managers;
  • Undertake, coordinate and prepare regular internal and external audit processes for the business in line with our existing HSEC auditing schedule;
  • Support in investigating any serious incidents and report findings to site and senior management;
  • Conduct health and safety training for project personnel;
  • Identify and manage health, safety, environment and community risk;
  • Contribute ideas and methods and processes that will achieve better safety outcomes for our people;
  • Assist in the literal work of changing the way we work to achieve better safety outcomes.

About the Person: 

  • Strong underground mining safety/operational background;
  • Demonstrated experience in a safety leadership position within a mining / resources contracting business, at a project, regional or business unit level;
  • Very strong interpersonal skills so that you are able to challenge our ways of working, but retain/build trust of our leaders and teams and at the same time provide practical ways of achieving the desired change;
  • Ability to communicate, influence and build effective relationships at all levels of the business – internally and externally;
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment;
  • Proven high level of professionalism, maturity, candour and confidentiality in daily work ethic;
  • Ability to deliver training as a subject matter expert;
  • Ability to identify hazards and ways of working that need to change;
  • Experience, wisdom and influencing skills to be able to navigate a path so that outcomes are achieved in a timely manner for the various situations.
