What does your daily life look like at Yancoal?

This a great opportunity for a Mining Engineer looking for an opportunity to develop their skills and experience as a Senior Mining Engineer.

As the Senior Mining Engineer, you will contribute to Yancoal’ s growth strategy by providing high level technical support in the implementation and monitoring of the Yancoal Mine Planning System and processes. This role also provides support and expertise in technical, operational, and financial functions relating to Mining Engineering with respect to site operations, feasibility studies and merger & acquisition activity.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Support implementation of the Yancoal Mine Planning Systems, including Guidelines, Standards, Procedures, Templates and Tools.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Resource Development Plan (RDP) process for each of the operating sites.
  • Assist with the facilitation of the LOM Plan, 5 Year Plan and Annual Operating Plan as per the Guidelines for the operating sites.
  • Assist the Principal Mining Engineer with mine planning and technical advice to operating sites.
  • Assist the Principal Mining Engineer with technical reviews for M&A activity.
  • Assist in conducting brown field and green field feasibility studies to allow for internal growth opportunities.
  • Preparing preliminary and detailed mine designs, methods and mine plans with various mine planning tools.
  • Assist with JORC reporting.
  • Liaison with site engineering personnel and consultants for data collection and analysis.

What do you need to be successful in the role?

To be successful in the role you will require the following skills:

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or in a related engineering discipline is required.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong planning, organising and coordination skills.
  • Commercial focus / business acumen.
  • Strong analytical skills and highly numerate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with external and internal stakeholders at all levels.
  • High level of computer literacy including – Microsoft office suite of programs
  • Familiarity with land access and general property agreements
  • Familiarity with Native Title (desirable)
  • Familiarity with GIS systems (desirable)

Experience:

  • Previous underground experience in operational planning encompassing short-, medium- and long-term planning
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in technical roles of underground coal mines.
  • Previous experience in operational roles
  • Opencut technical experience will be advantageous.
  • Experience in developing and implementing underground mine planning systems.
  • Solid people management skills and experience in roles where influencing people is a critical skills
